Recently, VCS student Ilana Kruger started a field trip club to give people in the program a short break from coursework and let them try out new things away from the SVA campus. The club’s inaugural trip will take place this Sunday, October 7th, with a trip to DuBois Farms in Highland, NY for an afternoon of apple picking.
Here’s what Ilana had to say about the club and the upcoming trip:
I just started the club this semester as a way to create a bit more of a community feeling within VCS, to get students and staff out of the 4th floor and into an adventure. For the first trip I chose apple picking as a sort of welcome to Fall, and as a way to get students and staff out of the city for a couple of hours and enjoy the foliage and of course apples!
At the moment the club is rather small, but I am very open to having new members and ideas. If any students are interested in joining the club they can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here’s a video with details about the trip, including how to sign up:
UPDATE, 9:57 a.m. – Here’s some more information about the trip that just went out via the VCS mailing list:
Please join the Field Trip Club in our first trip of the school year! We are going apple picking at Dubois Farms in upstate New York this Sunday, October 7th.
We will meet at the main building (23rd and 3rd) at 10 am and take a bus to the farm. At the farm you can choose how many apples you would like to pick — from a 2lb. bag to a 5lb. bag — prices vary.
Lunch is included with the trip! There is a barbecue at the farm with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
If you are interested in coming, please stop by Bret’s office and sign up today! You will need to give Bret a $20 deposit to reserve your spot, which will be returned on the bus. Space is limited. Act now!
Hope to see you there!
