This Saturday and Sunday: The Renewal Arts Collective and Type A Fibers to participate in the 2015 Jersey City Art & Studio Tour
This weekend (October 3rd and 4th), the VCS students and alumni in the Renewal Arts Collective will be taking part in the 2015 Jersey City Art & Studio Tour (JCAST) with an exhibition of work in the city’s Westside District. Here’s more information about it from collective member Santiago Chavez:
Renewal Arts Collective is having a fundraiser and art exhibition at Halftime Bar and Grill in Jersey City this weekend. In addition to raising awareness for the work RAC is doing at a local elementary school, the exhibition will highlight the art of the individual artists in the collective. Information about RAC projects in the JC community and a slideshow will be shown in the bars event space. The outdoor space will have salon style exhibition of artwork along with refreshments, chili, and music Saturday and Sunday from 12-7.
Halftime is located at 746 West Side Avenue in Jersey City. In addition to meeting some of the artists and seeing their work, you’ll be able to check out a mural by Santiago that’s just down the street on a neighboring building.
VCS faculty member Amy Wilson will also be taking part in the studio tour with a pop-up shop for her side business Type A Fibers. Her listing on the JCAST website describes what you’ll see there: “Type A Fibers creates one-of-a-kind handwoven blankets, rugs, wearable pieces, and wall-hangings out of handspun art yarn made from (mostly) local fibers. All hand-spinning and weaving done by artist Amy Wilson.” The space is located at 865 Bergen Avenue in Jersey City, and will be open from 12 to 8 pm on Saturday and 12 to 6 pm on Sunday.
