This Monday, April 18th at 6:30 pm – Space in Medieval and Modern Painting: A dialogue between Barbara Rose and Lynn Gamwell, in room 101C

aifp apr 18

Barbara Rose, art historian and critic, will dialogue with Lynn Gamwell, SVA art history faculty, about the medieval Beatus manuscripts, in which she has discerned a peculiar concept of space that reappears in modern art. This topic resonates with Lynn’s new book, Mathematics and Art: A Cultural History, in which she says that culture’s understanding of ultimate reality relates directly to how people conceive the geometry of space and the arithmetic of time.
