Here’s Tom Huhn’s announcement of this month’s VCS Department Chair Reading:
I’m happy to offer this essay by Howard Singerman on the occasion of the Mike Kelley retrospective exhibition at MoMA PS1 last Fall. The essay is less a review of the exhibition and more an attempt to reconsider the relation of trauma to representation in Kelley’s work. Singerman well shows the extent to which Kelley’s art continues to be so thoroughly misperceived and misunderstood. It might well be that this is one of the most important features of the work. I hope you enjoy the essay.
