The Degustator – a film by Megumi Ozaki, screening during Open Studios this Thursday, April 27th at 6 pm, 7 pm, and 8 pm
Life is a series of repeated occurrences and patterned behavior but is the cycle we follow always our own? In New York City, hundreds of stories converge and intersect every day, but do we always write our own? When do we fall victim to other people’s cycles?
The Degustator layers several of these stories, offering us a glimpse of one man’s personal cycle and the women he draws into it. Through rich visual language that appeals to every sense, the film follows aging writer RW as he struggles to keep control: control of his relationships, control of his actions, and control of his body.
This 15-minute short film, written and directed by Megumi Ozaki, is the first of three parts. It premiers at the School of Visual Arts during the Visual Critical Studies Open Studios in room 101C at 6PM, with repeated viewings at 7PM and 8PM.
