Opening this Monday: CLIMB, an exhibition of VCS student art at the Monkey Bar Lounge

Starting this Monday, the SVA student center The Monkey Bar Lounge will host CLIMB, an exhibition of artworks from students in the Visual & Critical Studies program curated by VCS alumna Shannon Broder. The show will run from March 19 to April 9, 2012, with an opening reception scheduled for this Tuesday evening (see below for more details).

Since graduating from VCS, Shannon has taken the position of Printshop Assistant in the BFA Fine Arts printmaking department here at SVA; she did the letterpress printing for the exhibition poster shown above, which was designed by VCS student Berny Tan. (Berny will also be in the show, with a large-size digital print of her infographic about The Waste Land.)

CLIMB is part of a collaborative project between SVA’s Student Activities office and the school’s academic departments that’s designed to enrich students’ academic experience by providing them with a wide range of extracurricular activities and opportunities. In addition to exhibition space at The Monkey Bar lounge, the program has included offers for discount movie and theater tickets, community service activities, student government events, guest speakers, neighborhood tours, and museum visits.

The opening reception for CLIMB will take place this Tuesday, March 20th from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Monkey Bar Lounge, which is located on the ground floor at 217 East 23rd Street. For more information about CLIMB or other events at The Monkey Bar Lounge, contact the Visual Arts Student Association (VASA) at 212-592-2130.
