WHICH WAY FORWARD?
The Inaugural SVA Politics Debate

A forum for SVA students and alumni to discuss and debate key issues in American society and the world. The first in what we hope will become a yearly tradition at SVA, we invite students from different parts of the political spectrum, in the middle of a contentious primary season, to discuss WHICH WAY FORWARD? We’ll be tackling three main issues: climate change, student loans, and inequality. Each of these is a major crisis touching young people’s lives—can our political system do anything to address them? Panelists will answer questions, offer rebuttals, and have a chance to weigh in on which presidential contender will make things better. Come to watch a heated debate, learn something new, decide how you’ll vote in April and November, and maybe even get involved!

Featured Panelists include:

  • Emula Aldin (Honors Freshman, Yang supporter)
  • Julianna Ham (VCS Junior; SVA YDSA)
  • Kenneth Varvel (SVA Film alum; staff at Computer Arts Dept)
  • Townes Nelson (Columbia undergrad, Sunrise Movement)

Moderator: Jeremy Cohan (Dir. of Honors)
