From June 5th to the 26th, VCS student Elektra KB will have several works on display in the group exhibition “Social” at the SVA Gallery on 23rd Street. Curated by Richard Brooks, the exhibition examines current global conditions and cultural legacies, and features photography, painting, and sculpture by a group of eight SVA students and alumni, including Peter Buotte, Katie Cercone, Natan Dvir, Anat Even-Or, Yuri Leonov, Elizabeth Libert, and Sara Macel, and Elektra.
Elektra makes art using a wide range of mediums, including photography, collage, painting, and video. In addition to appearing in other undergraduate exhibitions at SVA, her works were featured in a solo exhibition that I curated for the library of the MFA Art Criticism and Writing program at SVA in 2009, and an event at Local Project in Long Island City that coincided with the last Armory Show. Below are images of some of the works in the current exhibition. You can click on each of them to see larger versions.
A reception for “Social” will be held at the SVA Gallery on Monday, June 7th from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The SVA Gallery is located in the entrance to the college at 209 East 23rd Street, New York, NY, and is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
