The cover to the print edition of I Want You issue 5, which includes a series by Elektra KB.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about an upcoming portfolio of artworks by VCS student Elektra KB in the Seattle-based art magazine I Want You. The new issue of I Want You is now out in both print and online editions. The print version includes one of Elektra’s works, and an URL leading to a series of prints and videos that she created exclusively for the online edition. The online feature includes a link to Elektra’s site and a statement by her that describes the series.

The works in the series all relate to the Theocratic Republic of Gaia, a dystopian world in which the people’s spiritual impulses have been channeled toward the worship of media and consumerism. Elektra’s statement goes into more detail about the Theocratic Republic of Gaia, and also describes the ideas behind some of its imagery.

I’ve included a couple screen captures here; to see the complete series, follow this link.
