VCS faculty member Connie Beckley appeared in yesterday’s New York Times, in a review of the three-evening musical event Essential Repertoire at the Issue Project Room in Brooklyn. Her three contributions to last Thursday’s opening-night concert are featured prominently in the article, which also discusses Essential Repertoire’s commemoration of the influential concert series New Music, New York, held at the Kitchen over nine nights in 1979.

Here in the VCS program, Beckley teaches Looking into Music, a course for second-year students that considers the close historical relation of music and the visual arts via a combination of lectures, independent research, student presentations, and studio projects.

The Times article, which includes a photo of Beckley performing her piece “Tiptoe,” can be found here.
