2015 VCS alumnus Conner Calhoun was just awarded the Regional Emerging Artist Residency at Artspace, a non-profit visual arts center located in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Artspace website describes the residency:
Since 2000, the Artspace Regional Emerging Artist Residency has provided 39 emerging visual artists with time and space to explore their work in a supportive and thriving open studio environment in our historic building in downtown Raleigh, NC.
Every six months, Artspace selects two artists in their early professional careers to participate in the six-month residency. Resident artists receive 24-hour access to a private rent-free studio. The Residency concludes with a one-month solo exhibition at Artspace.
During the Residency, artists benefit from opportunities for professional development and collaboration with peers. Residents actively contribute to Artspace’s artistic and educational programming by participating in First Friday, being available for studio visits and tours, and working in their studios during Artspace’s business hours. Residents are also required to give a presentation, artist talk and/or demonstration to the public to coincide with their residency or exhibition.
Conner’s residency begins this January, and will continue through July. He has offered to send some images and comments once it’s over, so I’ll post an update then.
