Each year in Amy Wilson’s fall-semester Art in Theory class, the students are required to create two timelines encompassing the major artistic and historical developments of the the twentieth century. A minimum of 15 art movements and 40 historic events must be included in each of the two timelines, which cover the periods from 1900-1950 and 1950-2000. The goal is for each student to gain a deeper understanding of how art and society have evolved together, and the interdependent relationship they have had throughout the modern era.

Today’s post presents Lily Guan’s timeline for 1900 to 1950 from this semester’s session of the class.
