Announcing Microanalysis | The Scale of Subjecthood, Thursday, October 11th at 239 Greene Street, presented by the NYU Department of Media, Culture, and Communication
Practitioners of microanalytic observation and interpretation place their human subjects under insistent inspection. Often these subjects are at the social margins. Their pervasive discomfort is transformed into documents, texts, photos and films that in turn may be used to educate others—or even to reform the subjects themselves.
Microanalysis: The Scale of Subjecthood brings together scholars of various disciplines to offer new histories of the small as a research object. It explores different archives, from animal ethology to the anti-psychiatry movement, from moving image technologies to automated reporting, as well as the philosophies that underlie and outwit them.
