VCS faculty member Annette Wehrhahn has work on display along with recent pieces by artists Joe Fyfe and Tamara Gonzales in the new exhibition WOBBLY SWABBIES at Pablo’s Birthday. The artists’ reception will take place tomorrow (Friday, February 19th) from 6 to 8 pm, and the show will be up through March 6th. Here’s more about it from the gallery’s press release:

Sometimes explaining a title, like explaining a joke, or even a work of art, will subtract more of its potential persuasiveness than if it had remained a bit of puzzlement. This will be the case with this obscurely named but worthily assembled exhibition of newer works by three artists, all of who also sometimes practice as curators, writers and even gallery-owners.

They come together here through a familiarity with one another but also through certain commonalities of sensibility, attitude and visual acumen. These would include a penchant for asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and an appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural as well as common manufactured objects and processes. All the work belies a seeming casualness. After longer scrutiny of individual works one finds a remarkable formal coherence.
