An announcement on the cancellation of end-of-the-semester VCS events in light of SVA’s campus closure and move to online classes

Here’s an announcement from VCS Director of Operations Paloma Crousillat about today’s SVA campus closure and VCS event schedule adjustments for the rest of the Spring 2020 semester:

Dear All,

I hope this email finds you safe and sound.

As you have no doubt already heard, SVA’s buildings (not the dorms) are closing for all non-essential staff at 5 PM today. If you are not able to remove your personal belongings by 5 PM today, do not fear. We will not be throwing anything away! However, the buildings will remain closed until further notice, perhaps until the end of the semester. So….if you still need to pick up items, DO IT NOW!

Although the buildings will be closed, your courses will continue to run online throughout the rest of the semester. Unfortunately, this means that we will have to postpone or cancel our end-of-the-year events, including open studios and portfolio reviews. Open Studios, sadly, will be cancelled. However, Open Studios is a student run initiative – if you have any ideas or someone wishes to coordinate a virtual show, we are here to help!

Portfolio reviews will be postponed to the beginning of the fall semester. We will send out more details on how these will run sometime in May.

Lastly, while we all settle into this new reality, Tom, Justin, Paul and I are working to come up with some ways to keep us all connected. This may include a weekly virtual movie night as well as a VCS discussion board. Other wacky ideas are being thrown around and we welcome any other (equally as wacky) suggestions or thoughts you may have.

This is a trying time for us all. We are immensely thankful for your patience these past few weeks and hope that you will not hesitate to contact us for any reason. We are here to help!
