ARTnews has just published a piece on art quilts showcasing recent and upcoming exhibitions by several contemporary artists, including VCS faculty member Amy Wilson. The article features Amy’s piece Soft MoMA (2013-14), on display through February 8th in the group show “Space is the Place” at BravinLee programs.

On a related note: in addition to her usual schedule of studio and art history classes, Amy is also teaching a new Fiber Arts elective in the department this year. Here is a description from the SVA 2013/2014 registration book:

Fiber Arts

This course will introduce students to the basics of working within several classic American fiber arts traditions, including spinning, weaving, dyeing, appliqué, quilt-making, embroidery, and basic fabric design. While traditional ways of working and basic techniques will be demonstrated and stressed in the first half of the semester, students will use their skills to create individualized artistic projects during the second half of the course. In the end, this course is a hybrid of new and old techniques, combining craft and fine art.
