A new academic year and a brand new website for VCS

Today is the start of a new academic year at SVA, and we’d like to welcome our new class of VCS first-year students, and say welcome back to our returning students and faculty.

Over the last few weeks, VCS Chair Assistant Bret Schneider and VCS Systems Administrator Justin Elm have been putting the finishing touches on a new website for the VCS program, which is now up and running at visualandcriticalstudies.com. In addition to basic information such as our promotional video and a list of courses that students take during each year of the program, the site also features event listings, faculty profiles, and images of the VCS facilities.

The online catalog for the VCS library has also been redesigned and brought under the umbrella of the new site. The new catalog organizes the books into the following categories:

As you can see in the image above, each category is color-coded. Tags using the same system of colors have been placed on the spines of each book in the library, making it easier for students and faculty to locate the titles they’re looking for. The online catalog also allows users to search the entire library by title.

As the site continues to evolve, I will post occasional updates here on the VCS blog. In the meantime, I hope everyone’s school year starts off really well. I’ll see you on campus.
