VCS alumna Olena Shmahalo just sent us the following message about a paid internship opportunity for the spring 2018 semester. She thought that a student from VCS with the right skill set might be interested in applying:

I’m working as art director at Quanta Magazine and we’re currently looking for a multimedia intern for the Spring semester. It’s a paid internship. We’re looking for someone that would be able to do photo research as well as editing (knows Photoshop, etc.).

Here are a few additional details about the internship from the online job post:

POSITION SUMMARY

Quanta Magazine is looking for a part-time motivated web/multimedia intern for the Spring semester of 2018. This is an outstanding opportunity for a beginning science journalist to dive into fields like physics, mathematics, biology and computer science while developing digital editing and production skills. While this is primarily a web/multimedia internship, pitches for Quanta’s Abstractions blog are more than welcome. This is a paid internship.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with research for the art department and podcast. Contact scientists, artists, photographers, writers and press officers to track down images and audio.

• Edit images and videos for social media. (Experience using Photoshop for color correction, editing and preparing files for the web is a plus.)

• Produce and publish articles using WordPress, following best web and SEO practices.

• Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required
