Images from last semester’s Honors trip to Peru

In addition to serving as chair of the Visual & Critical Studies and Art History Departments at SVA, Tom Huhn is also the coordinator for the school’s Honors Program, an interdisciplinary undergraduate program open to incoming freshmen in Advertising, Animation, Cartooning, Computer Art, Design, Film, Fine Arts, Illustration, and Photography and Video. The Honors Program provides a more challenging liberal arts and studio curriculum, along with additional special events such as lectures and museum and studio visits. In addition, Honors students go on a one-week trip abroad during their third year spring recess. While on the trip, they visit historical sites, learn about the region’s artistic and architectural traditions, and get to experience a little of the local culture. Past destinations have included Warsaw, Florence, Mumbai, Oaxaca, Palermo, Istanbul, and Prague.

This year, the Honors group went to Peru, where they visited Inca ruins and other sites in and around Cusco, and then hiked through the village of Pisac on the way to the Lares Trail and Machu Picchu. In addition to Tom, the group was accompanied by VCS faculty members Steve DeFrank, Suzanne Joelson, and Justin Elm. Today’s post features a few images from the trip; you can find more on the VCS Flickr page.
