Last week, I received an e-mail from VCS alumna Alex MacNamara (2012) about what she’s been up to since she left SVA. She told me that she’s just taken a new job as Special Events Coordinator at the Everhart Museum of Natural History, Science and Art in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Here’s some of what she had to say, along with a link to information on the first event she’s helped organize.
My focus is raising awareness and support for the museum by engaging the public in community events that celebrate local and global culture and heritage.
The first event will be held on Friday, September 20th. The third annual Farm to Table Dinner is a popular event at the museum that showcases and celebrates the fall harvest in North Eastern Pennsylvania. Farmers, butchers, brewers, and bakers from a one hundred mile radius will contribute their products to the evening’s meal which will be prepared by Epicurean Delight, a local catering company.
This link contains more information about the event.
Alex also said that although she misses New York, she’s really enjoying her new job: “I find a lot of gratification in being able to bring my skills to a place that has a need for them, and also being able to give back to the place and the people that raised me feels pretty great.”
You can learn little more about the Farm to Table Dinner at this page on the Everhart Museum website, and read about the museum’s annual Summer Solstice events here. There’s also a little more information on other upcoming events at this link, and in the museum’s Twitter stream and Facebook page.
Congratulations, Alex! It sounds like a great job: challenging, but very rewarding too. Keep us posted.
