Katya Fine, 2016

Freelance Photographer

Freelance photographer and associate at Assouline Bookstore. In the years since graduating from VCS I have been primarily creating fine art photographs for my own purposes. I have recently been sourcing found family photos since my Mum passed in June and am working on a book that will create a relationship between these images and my own photographs, including written analysis and recollection from memory.

Lichi Wo, 2016

CEO, Red Dwarf Culture

Founded Red Dwarf Culture in Beijing. We aim to question our audiences, customers, and clients: What would you carry if one day you have to leave the Earth and move to Red Dwarf?

We design products, create experiences and produce videos and films base on their answers.

Following graduation, I began a career as an artist. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to have two solo shows here in New York in addition to numerous group shows. I have a regular studio practice in Brooklyn, but have recently devoted most of my time to developing a sustainable hotel & residential community in the Catskills.

Berny Tan, 2014

Artist, curator, writer

Berny Tan (b. 1990, Singapore) is an artist, curator, writer and occasional designer. She graduated with a BFA (Hons) in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of Visual Arts, and is currently pursuing a MA in Contemporary Art Theory at Goldsmiths, University of London. From 2015-17, she worked as Assistant Curator for OH! Open House, a non-profit organisation in Singapore that explores the country’s cultural geography through art. Her personal art practice interweaves embroidery, drawing, installation, graphic design and writing – exploring the tensions in her attempts to systematise intangible experiences. Tan has exhibited her work in Singapore, New York and the UK, including two solo exhibitions in Singapore in 2018.

Audrey Nicolaides, 2013

Ph.D. student in Political Science

I study and teach political theory and international relations at Northwestern University in Chicago. My academic research centers on the topic of global governance from the perspective of critical theory. In parallel to my academic work, I do organizing work for a number of progressive organizations including the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research and the Democratic Socialists of America. Though I am no longer involved in the art world, my time in VCS was crucial to my development as a theorist and thinker. The intellectual stimulation I found there made me want to pursue an academic career while the program gave me the freedom to explore my interests and develop my critical thinking and writing chops. Because of this, and thanks to the support of several VCS faculty, I was accepted into graduate school where I was able to transition into my current field of study.
